Who’s Meg?

Entrepreneur Boot Camp- Albany Regional Chamber- 2014

I’m Meg! I’m the artist! My goal as an artist, and as an individual really, is to never stop learning, never stop exploring, and never stop creating. I have an unquenchable thirst to learn and I’m always asking questions! I believe we should all be true to ourselves and live out a passionate, curious, and creative life. Even as an adult, I am fascinated by the world around me. I have always wanted to document what I see and keep looking for more to discover. With a diverse interest in, well, everything I tried a lot of different things. It always involved art, in one way or another. For the longest time, I dreamed of being an author and wrote many stories growing up. I took lessons for a few different instruments imagining what it would be like to be in a band. My friend and I even started a business in grade school selling pipe cleaner creations for a nickel to our classmates. Not a bad gig! Even the art of riding consumed my life, considering I grew up on the back of a horse! And out of all the creative activities the one that has always been with me is drawing.11205853_1581436122096067_133712763_n I doodled, I sketched, I drew pictures for my family and friends. I drew everything real and everything made up! My forte was horses and other animals. It was second nature to me. I never even considered it as a career path. To me it was just like eating or sleeping. You don’t make a living off of that stuff. As I entered high school, I was able to take more advanced classes in art, some of which were specifically for drawing. I was given much praise from teachers and started receiving awards from juried events. It finally hit me that I could make a living by just being myself. It was so simple. Right in front of my face the whole time and I never saw it. I have a great appreciation for my teachers who really taught me to act on my passion for drawing. To go with it. For telling me that I had the talent to do something really special.

So, thank you. Ever since then, I have strived to make a living out of who I am and what I do. It is an amazing feeling handing someone a piece I did and watch them come to tears because it touched them so much. I put a lot of heart into my work and to see that people can actually feel that too, makes me want to share it with everyone! People are so overwhelmed these days. Our lives have become so packed and there is never enough time in the day! Often we forget to take a moment to ourselves, even just to take a deep breath. If my art on your wall can make you stop and smell the roses, even for a moment, then I did my job right.

ATA2My medium is mainly graphite and colored pencils with some occasional charcoal. To be honest though, if I can draw with it, I’ll use it. My subject is equine based with any and all animals in between. I think the greatest teachers on the planet are the animals. They communicate in a way that mankind has lost sight of. I have a great respect for all creatures and I try to incorporate that into my work. I have a personal connection with horses and have known quite a few over the years. They are intelligent, beautiful beasts and have many lessons to teach. They are a huge inspiration for my work.

Another strong passion of mine is photography. It kind of goes hand in hand, really. I am able to document the world as I wanted and bring the images back home to draw! Win, win! Ahh, life is good. I had so many disposable cameras growing up. Eventually, my parents bought me a Kodak point and shoot that I used throughout high school. As my skills enhanced my boyfriend wanted to see me do something with my photography. So he bought me a Canon Rebel XTi, a couple lenses, battery pack, other accessories and then I married him. True story. (I married him for more than just the camera though. I needed a cool last name as an artist! HaHa!)11376373_462365720598665_1076544783_n

So to sum it all up, I’m an artistic, free spirited, open minded, adventuring, horse-a-holic, photographer on a mission to never stop discovering beauty within the natural world. If you want to know what shenanigans will come of such a lifestyle, follow my blog and we’ll find out!
