These massive beasts are truly a force to be reckoned with. The polar bear can stand up to 8 ft tall and can weigh between 900-1600 lbs.! They are the largest carnivore on land and the most aggressive of all the bears. The polar bear has many lessons to teach. By observing them and studying their behaviors, we uncover traits such as:
- Patience
- Persistence
- Camouflage
- Independence
- Strength
- Resilience
- Endurance
The Inuit have a great respect for the polar bear. They are seen as Shamans, shapeshifting from beast to man as they stand to walk on two legs. Some believe that polars bears are great navigators because they can sense the energies within the earth and follow the ley lines to get where they need to go. In some tales, the polar bear was a god and the master of all bears. He was immense in size and so, his soul was just as immense. He protected the other bears and would watch the hunters to ensure they respected the bears they had hunted, with a special ceremony, and to also use every part of the creature. This great respect was appreciated by the polar bear god and in return he would ensure the hunter’s success on the next hunt. Legends also recount how Inuit ancestors acquired hunting techniques by observing the polar bear.
The polar bear excels as a hunter, often targeting seals as their prey. They exhibit remarkable patience as they wait for an unsuspecting seal to surface for air near the edge of cracking ice or breathing holes. Their persistence knows no bounds, as they can travel vast distances in their quest for sustenance. Once they locate their prey, they settle onto the ice, so as not to cast a large shadow, and wait for the perfect moment to strike. A good meal is worth the wait! Is there something you have been persistent about? Maybe it is time to lay low and be patient. Let the meal ticket come to you!
The polar bear’s most obvious characteristic is their camouflage. Their white coats blend perfectly with their environment in the snowy Arctic. They seem to have magical powers as they can disappear and reappear right before your eyes. One of the many reasons the polar bear is such an outstanding hunter is because of their ability to remain inconspicuous and vanish at will. If the polar bear has presented itself to you, it may be in your best interest to remain unseen for now. Blend into the background and wait for the best moment to appear out of nowhere! Only when you have a full understanding of everything around you, can you emerge with an incredible power that no one saw coming.
Polar Bears are loners. They live in solitude for their entire life, excluding their first two years which they spend with their mothers. As adults, they come together only to mate. If you’ve been drawn to the polar bear, perhaps it is time to start fostering your own independence!
As mothers, polar bears are powerful protectors. Only female polar bears will hibernate to birth their cubs, usually twins. For their first two years, mama bear will teach them everything they need to know to survive the frigid lands on their own. Mothers can find strength with polar bear as their totem.
Polars bears survive in one of the world’s harshest climates! With all these tools on their belt, they have become one of the most resilient creatures on the planet! Even more so as their habitat deteriorates, their food source depletes and pollution increases. Polar bears can endure a lot. It’s not uncommon for them to swim up to 100 miles without resting. One bear recorded swam 220 miles before stopping! The polar bear doesn’t quit and will always push forward! Call on the polar bear when you need help enduring a tough situation.
The polar bear is the product of primal instincts and power. They fear nothing. Use polar bear energy to recharge your confidence and stand tall!
