Earth Day is Everyday!

Happy Earth Day everyone! I was able to get outside today and enjoy some bitter winds and periods of light snow, how about you? Wait, isn’t it Spring? Well, I guess Mother Earth can do whatever she wants today, as she does everyday but what the hell! We love her anyway!

Since the entire world is in quarantine, lets appreciate how this can help the environment and see the good that can come from a negative event. This is also the perfect time to get lost in nature. Explore the woods, sit in the trees, soak up the sun or just lay in the grass. Plant a tree, plant a flower, put up a bird feeder or just recycle something. There are so many simple ways to help Earth and enjoy it at the same time. Just pick one!

I decided to create a compilation of some of my favorite Earth related images that I have posted on my blog so far. I hope you enjoy them and I hope you enjoy your Earth Day!

Stay earthy, free spirits!

I’ve been bitten by the Love Bug!

It’s getting close to Valentine’s Day and I’ve been bitten by the Love Bug! I whipped this drawing out real quick. I needed to do a simple piece following the last one I did. This one was a nice, little breather that I could play around with. I had no expectations other than I wanted it to resemble a lady bug and incorporate “love”. I have Valentine’s Day cards available in my shop as well as other gifts for your sweetie that won’t wilt in two days!

Thanks for stopping by today. Enjoy the day with your love bugs! Check back next week to see my next totem animal, the coyote.

Mucho amor, free spirits!

Lepidoptera Photography Collection

Lepidoptera is the order of butterflies and moths. I have discovered so many this year. Mostly in larvae form but still fascinating all the same. Here is my collection of various caterpillars, moths and butterflies that I have photographed so far.

Black Swallowtail Butterfly
Black Swallowtail Butterfly, distinguishable from other similar species by single dots on the back wings surrounded by orange. This particular one had a torn wing but it didn’t seem to keep it from taking air!

Green horned Caterpillar
Green Horned Caterpillar (see also Tomato hornworm and Tobacco Hornworm), Vegetable gardeners hate them as them munch, munch, munch away! It’s recommended to squash them but I wouldn’t have the heart to. Besides they transform into beautiful Sphinx moths!

Harnessed Tiger Moth
Harnessed Tiger Moth, often mistaken for a butterfly because of it’s striking pattern!

Io Moth Caterpillar
Io Moth Caterpillar, Stay away from this guy. Those spikes are tipped with poison which will leave you with a burning, itching rash for an hour or so!

Silver spotted skipper
Silver Spotted Skipper Butterfly, There are over 3,000 species of skipper in the world. This particular one can be found in 48 states in the U.S.

Tent Caterpillar
Tent Caterpillar, Various species create “tents” as homes while others like this one will just huddle in social groups in trees.

White marked tussock moth caterpillar
White marked Tussock Moth Caterpillar, This caterpillar boasts a long tail and hair tufts that will leave a rash similar to the Io Moth Caterpillar.

Hummingbird Moth, You can learn all about these guys here in a previous post I put together.
