Animals are my muse.
nature is my temple.

Morning Dove Totem Color

My latest totem piece is a gift for my grandfather. It is a mourning dove with my own personal symbolism attached to it. You can check out that story here. I am very happy with how the final piece turned out. The pose is unique and active. The wings were my favorite part to draw. Creating feather patterns and following the elegant curve of the wing fascinates me. I have always loved wings and feathers. It’s as if I use to have my own and dream to have them back.

Mourning Dove Symbolism

They are a symbol of feminine energies, motherhood and nurturing. They feed from the ground showing us to stay connected with Mother Earth. The dove is a messenger from a higher power. You can hear their call more often at dusk and dawn. This is when the veil between the physical realm and spiritual realm is the thinnest. They bring a message of love and peace. It is time to put your mind to rest and remember to love yourself and others.

The mourning dove is a symbol of new birth. Remember your creator, your Mother. Her energy can help create a new life. A new you! The mourning dove can guide you down a fresh path. No matter what burdens our past we must “mourn” and move forward towards a brighter future. A future full of compassion and comfort. Native Americans use to listen for the mourning dove, knowing it would bring them to water. Be at ease and let the water carry you to a new adventure.

If the mourning dove has flown across your path today, it brings peace and hope. Let go of what has passed and make room for more love. Connect with nature to take advantage of the nurturing energies she provides. This will give you a regenerative boost in the right direction. Fret not and let the waters gently carry you to your next chapter.

Thanks for stopping by this week! I hope the mourning dove has brought you at ease as it does for me, every time I hear that call. Have you seen a dove recently? Share your story in the comments below!

Until next time,

“The best love is the kind that awakens the soul; that makes us reach for more, that plants the fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That’s what I hope to give you forever.”

Love your artwork and beautifully crafted words. Thank you so much! I’ve been taking pictures of the beautiful two that have been visiting me the past three days. I haven’t seen the other two today, but they were sitting in my tree that has a marking of a “ghost”-like figure.

I’ve never been interested in birds, and they have opened my eyes and world to a new level of awareness and comfort of what is right in front of me. It’s a gentle and peaceful reminder that I’m loved, I matter, they are here to say hello and remind me of this, and much more.

    Thanks again for the article!

Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I have also had a pair of doves that have been visiting me recently. Their song is so beautiful! Birds have always been a strong totem for me. I learned so much about them from my dad and grandfather. Now that they have both passed, the birds share even more with me. Birds are thought to be the messengers of the gods/goddesses because they can fly high, touching the heavens, bringing messages of wisdom back down to us. I’m so glad that you have discovered the love and comfort they can offer! Thanks again for stopping by. I’m happy you shared your story with me! Fly high, free spirit!

Hello , I just had a wonderful experience with a mourning Dove. I am working from home and decided to go for a walk in the grass around 2:30 today. I took my walk and When I came back onto my deck to go through my sliding door. I noticed a mourning Dove sitting in the corner of my deck . He was just sitting staring off at the trees not paying attention to me even though I was five to six feet from him. I watched him for a while being so peaceful and then took a picture and went inside to work some more. I got curious over the next 2 hours and checked on him a few times he remained on the deck peacefully sitting. When I was done working I went out side and she had moved closer to the sliding door I come out onto the deck from. Now sitting closer to my seat still peaceful but now looking my way I took a seat near him about three feet away. She sat there for about five minutes and then he walked away on the deck about 10 ft and
back within two feet of me back and forth twice then stopped about two feet from me sat down for a moment and looked at me as I gazed at him, as this experience brought me peace. He then quickly flew towards me over my head and away. I think I just had an experience with my spirit animal.

I have no words! This is so stupendously beautiful and touching. The symbolism is spot on for the partial solar eclipse in Cancer.
